The Answers You Need

  • Are sticks/pucks/hockey allowed on the trails?

    • ABSOLUTELY! We encourage guests to bring their sticks and pucks along. We also have a few extras if you forget yours at home! Although we encourage you to enjoy skating with your puck throughout the trails we do insist that you act accordingly and play respectfully around others guests.

  • How big are the skating trails?

    • BIG! RiverOak skating trails are the largest in the area, plenty wide to skate side by side and pass by fellow skaters going the other directions. We have more than 4 acres of ice over 3km long and covering 50 acres through our property. Our trails are full of hills, twists and turns. We also have some rinks throughout for more open area where guests can skate around and play games.

  • Are dogs allowed on all the trails?

    • ABSOLUTELY! We love when our guests bring their fur family for some fresh air. We do insist that you maintain complete control of your dog at all time and ensure that they never pose a risk or frighten other guests.

  • Are skating aids available on site?

    • YES! We have a limited number of skating aids available onsite for use free of charge. We simply ask that you return them back to the lodge when finished.

  • What are the ice conditions?

    • The ice is always in best condition first thing in the morning. The skating trails are outdoor ice and impacted by weather conditions. On warm days, the ice can get soft and choppy. The surface can also crack and be uneven in spots. For daily conditions call 613-212-0077.

  • Do you rent skates?

    • YES! We have new figure and hockey style skates in various sizes for rent. Skate rentals include a helmet. All rentals provided by Replay Sports. All rentals require payment by Visa or Mastercard and valid drivers license to be surrendered until returned. All rentals are first come first served, cannot be reserved, and subject to availability.

  • Do you rent helmets?

    • YES! We have various sizes of helmets available for rent, with and without cages. All rentals provided by Replay Sports. All rentals require payment by Visa or Mastercard and valid drivers license to be surrendered until returned. All rentals are first come first served, cannot be reserved, and subject to availability.

  • Do you rent snowshoes?

    • YES! We have various sizes of new snowshoes, including poles. All rentals provided by Replay Sports. All rentals require payment by Visa or Mastercard and valid drivers license to be surrendered until returned. All rentals are first come first served, cannot be reserved, and subject to availability.

  • Is there free parking?

    • YES! We have lots of free parking on site, however it can fill up during busy times so we always suggest coming early.

  • Trail and premises etiquette

    • Our trails are for everyone and we want to ensure that it’s an enjoyable experience for all. Please be courteous and respectful to all guests. More experienced skaters should give way to less capable skaters give them ample space along the trails. Reckless behaviour, buzzing past other guests, and other unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated. This property is our home and we work very hard to make it a beautiful spot for all of our guests, please keep this in mind and treat it with respect. Failure to adhere to any of this, show disrespect the property or any of our guests will result in expulsion from the property with refund.

  • When do the trails open for the season?

    • As soon as possible! We are always watching the weather and eager to get the trails going as soon as mother nature will allow. Our typical opening dates have been late December or early January. Follow social media for updates or call 613-212-0077 before coming.

  • Are the hiking/snowshoeing trails open when the skating trails are closed?

    • All trails are operated as a complete system and therefore do not open separately. RiverOak is only open to the public when we have the skating trails announced as open.

  • How much are trail passes?

    • Pricing for all passes can be found by clicking the BUY NOW tab above.

  • When is the best time to enjoy the trails?

    • Trails are always in best condition earlier in the morning when we open. On warmer days the trails will get softer in the afternoon with the sun. For quieter times on the trails with fewer other guests, we would suggest avoiding weekend afternoons. Weekdays are far less busy, but if you do want quieter times on the weekend you can come as soon as we open in the morning or later in the evening.

  • How will I know if the trails are open today?

    • To know if the trails are open and their conditions you can follow us on Facebook or Instagram, or you can call 613-212-0077.

  • Can I buy passes for someone else in my name?

    • ABSOLUTELY! You can purchase a pass in your own name and give it to whomever you would like. I.D. is not required to use the ticket as each ticket can only be used once.

  • What days/hours are you open?

    • All days/times that we’re open can be found at riveroak.ca/hours

  • Are helmets required?

    • Helmets are a personal choice, we always recommend wearing a helmet particularly when renting skates or playing hockey. The only place on  the trails where helmets are mandatory is in the skate park.

  • Do you offer group discounts?

    • We do! If you’ve got a group of 10 or more, purchase your tickets at one time to receive a 10% discount for all!

  • Do you offer private or semi-private ice rentals?

    • ABSOLUTELY! If you’re interested in hosting your group event at RiverOak please send the details to info@riveroak.ca and we’ll get you all the information you need to host an amazing event!

  • Do I need a reservation?

    • Reservations are not required for individuals or groups. Simply show up when you’d like to skate, hike, snowshoe, or ski!

  • Can I buy tickets in advance online?

    • YES! You can purchase your tickets in advance at riveroak.ca/buynow. Tickets can also be purchased on site when you arrive.

  • How much are passes?

    • All pricing is available by clicking the BUY NOW tab above.

  • Do I need a pass if I’m not skating?

    • Yes, all visitors require passes to visit the property. There’s plenty of other activities other than skating.

  • Are strollers allowed on the trails?

    • ABSOLUTELY! Anything that makes it easier for the whole family to enjoy all the trails. You can bring a stroller, sleigh, or toboggan to bring your young one along.

  • Are the trails lit after dark?

    • The trails are partially lit after dark. For the sections that are not, we recommend bringing a headlamp. We also have headlamps available for purchase on site.

  • Is it true you have a skate park?!

    • Hell ya! We’ve brought our skate park back bigger and better! Test your skills with some real challenging terrain. This is for advanced and extreme skaters only. Helmets mandatory.

  • Do you offer food, snacks, and drinks?

    • Absolutely! We’ve got some delicious meals, treats, and drinks!

  • Do you have washrooms on site?

    • Yes, we have heated unisex washrooms on site.

  • Can I leave and come back?

    • You can access your car parked on site at any time throughout your visit. Day pass holder cannot leave site and return.
